Greetings
Optimist Friends,
What a privilege and honor it is to serve in the role of Governor of
the East Missouri Optimist Clubs this year. Together, we have the
opportunity to take the next 365 days to leave a legacy we can be
proud of by spending the 86,400 precious seconds given to us every
day. My wish for each of you is an upcoming year of personal
success, happiness, and prosperity. I would like to encourage you
to take the time this year to list things which you worry about or
distresses in your life…Then, ‘Promise Yourself’ to also identify
ways to remove those barriers in your life. Consider writing one or
more affirmations about yourself that will set the stage for the
realization of those personal goals.
The analogy, ‘Don’t Sit on Your Buts’ is a barrier which exists in
the way we talk as well as how we act. By developing self-awareness
of how we respond to questions or situations, such as “I would have
done that but…,” “I should have gone there but…,” or “I could have
said this but…,” is one way we can begin to create alternative
options in our life.
Many of us are held back because we are sitting on our ‘buts.’
‘But’ is an argument for our limitations and justification for
retreat. We need to figuratively get off our ‘buts’ and release
ourselves from their relatives, ‘Couldn’t, Wouldn’t, and
Shouldn’t.’ Obstacles and barriers are those frightening things we
see when we take our eyes off the Goal!
Whatever the mind conceives and believes is what we ultimately
achieve. Taking time to refuel our inner selves is as important as
what we eat each day to refuel our bodies. Have you ever considered
“Your Coat of Arms” and how you can utilize your gifts, talents and
capacities for the benefit of others? Our gifts, talents and skills
are what make us ‘unique’ and different from everyone else. When we
utilize our personal ‘Coat of Arms” we realize we have a lot to
offer those around us, thus imprinting our personal legacy of gifts
to the world.
This Optimist Year, we can “Dream Big 4 Kids” with all East Missouri
District Optimist Clubs to leave our legacy for the improvement of
youth services in our communities. We have ‘Dream Big’ shoes to
fill as we are challenged by Optimist International President Ronnie
Dunn to significantly increase our Club Membership, implement new
JOOI Clubs, and build quality Optimist Clubs in our surrounding
communities. The greatest reward we achieve in life is the
satisfaction that we are truly making a difference in our world.
I hope you will consider joining us
at the 3 quarterly East Missouri District of Optimist Clubs
Conferences and District Convention, so we can work together to
accomplish ‘Dream Big Goals’ by providing hope and positive vision
as Optimists who ‘Bring Out the Best in Kids.’
